Интересно-интересно имелось виду бархат, в которого атласное основание, или атлас как подкладка в накидки.

Если я правильно понимаю, тогда любой бархат был на шелковой основе. Написано "a cope of redde veluet opon Satyn orfrade with white damaske" = накидка / облачение из red velvet [b:ab6c4eb463]upon[/b:ab6c4eb463] satin, выделанном золотыми нитями с белым дамасским шелком... В любом случае это не основа, а еще некая ткань, к которой относится определение в виде II причастия, то есть "из красного бархата НА атласе, выделанном..." / "поверх атласа..." Речь идёт о вещах богатого рыцаря.

Таким образом мы получаем самое раннее упоминание о бархате: 1320-м, а указание о бархате, как ткани для именно костюма, а не украшения, полос и проч., после 1400?

Для Англии, видимо, да, но надо учитывать еще музейные и археологические артефакты.

Для других стран все может быть иначе.

Не обязательно в клетку. Тиртейн или тартин - это тип ткани, предположительно - шерсть с льном, считается, что она могла быть и полосатой.

Earving, это касается по сути лишь Англии.

Думаю, чем глубже в прошлое, тем хуже задокументировано в дошедших документах, так что сложно сказать, в какой мере в 14 веке применялся.

[app. immediately from French: Littré cites chamelot 13th c., camelot 16th c.; Cotgr. translates F. camelot, _chamlet'; Du Cange has med.L. camelotum; Anglo-French statutes of Edward IV have chamelett, and the spelling with cham- was the prevalent one in English till after the Restoration. The ultimate origin is obscure; at the earliest known date the word was associated (by Europeans) with camel, as if stuff made of camel's hair; but there is reason to think it was originally the Arabic khamlat, from khaml; Marco Polo (ed. Yule) I. 248 (Skeat). Khaml, khamlat, is explained by Lane as _the nap or pile or villous substance on the surface of cloth'; khamlat, by Johnson, as _camelot, silk and camel's hair, also, all silk or velvet, especially pily and plushy'. According to Littré, the Journal officiel of 1874, p. 3220/1, says camelot is so called from the Arabic seil el kemel, the Angora goat; cf. camel-yarn.]

A name originally applied to some beautiful and costly eastern fabric, afterwards to imitations and substitutes the nature of which has changed many times over. _A kind of stuff originally made by a mixture of silk and camel's hair; it is now made with wool and silk' (J.). _A light stuff, formerly much used for female apparel, made of long wool, hard spun, sometimes mixed in the loom with cotton or linen yarn' (Ure). It is uncertain whether it was ever made of camel's hair; but in the 16th and 17th c. it was made of the hair of the Angora goat.
According to Beck, Draper's Dict., _In [the] production [of camlets], the changes have been rung with all materials in nearly every possible combination; sometimes of wool, sometimes of silk, sometimes of hair, sometimes of hair with wool or silk, at others of silk and wool warp and hair woof_Those of our day have had cotton and linen introduced into their composition. А нет ли более подробной информации про шерстяной и хлопковый дамаск? Письменные источники, может быть, музейные ткани? Какими социальными слоями могли использоваться такие материи и для чего - для одежды или как интерьерные?

Olga, речь видимо идет об узорных тканях, которые имели смесовую структуру( основа шелк - уток шерсть, или основа шелк - уток хлопок).Речь может идти также об узорных "фастианах" с сатиновым переплетением.
Хотя в музее Виктории и Альберта есть образцы льняного дамаска.

У таких тканей было характерное атласное переплетение.Ткани использовались в качестве интерьерных - гобелены, завесы, покрывала и т.п. Образцы можно поискать в известных своими текстильными коллекциями музеях: Виктории и Альберта, Клюни, Метрополитан, Бостонский музей изящных искусств.

В Европе также бытовали изделия, которые копировали узоры привозного дамаска - например "гранатовый цвет", но, по сути не являлись дамаском.Такие "бюджетные" занавеси как раз изготавливались из шерсти и льна.

В английских документах упоминается ткань под названием "шалон"
chalun (n.) shalun.A figured woolen material named for Chalons-sur-Marne, a kind of tapestry; hence, a bedspread or hanging made of this material
Узорная шерстяная ткань, вид гобелена, производимая в месте Шалон - на - Марне.Использовалась в качестве занавесей(гобеленов), покрывал и т.п.
(1415) Reg.Chichele in Cant.Yk.S.42 (Lamb 69) 46: Item ij chalons, reed and plonket; þe red with okyn leves yn, þe plonket with rede rose þeryn.
Также 2 отреза шалона, красного и серо - голубого, красны с дубовыми листьями, серо - голубой с розами.

К сожалению, упоминаний, что такие ткани использовались для пошива одежды я пока не нашла. Упоминаний шелкового дамаска - очень много)

Griet, большое спасибо, особенно за образцы тканей!
Пока не заходила на форум, нашла кое-что по льняным дамаскам 16-17 веков в книге "Pattern and Loom: a practical study of the development of weaving techniques in China, Western Asia and Europe", автор John Becker, с. 263-265. Если изложить вкратце, то с 16 века во Фландрии, а позже в Германии начали производить льняные дамаски, имитирующие итальянские крупноузорные шелка или изображающие библейские и мифологические сцены. Это был столовый текстиль - пролотенца, скатерти, - он стоил ОЧЕНЬ дорого и использовался только высшей знатью.
По-видимому, приведенные Вами образцы к этой категории и относятся. Но на 15 век ничего пока не обнаружилось.
