An Unusual German Wheellock Over-and-Under Belt Pistol,
circa 1650.
Heavy barrels, retained by a double gilt iron band at the muzzles, approximately 22 mm. calibre, struck with Suhl town marks (Neue Stцckel p1706, nos 1655, 1698), the upper barrel inscribed '*C*A*M' with trefoil marks, bored with a vent and fitted with a tubular communicating vent below. Lower barrel with corresponding recessed vent above and bored below with a double opening vent, lower recess closed by a pivoted gilt iron moulded cover. Plain flat lock of military type. Interior struck with the maker's mark VN over H, full stock with fish tail butt. Fluted fore-end without provision for a ramrod, gilt iron furniture including belt hook. Length 34.5 cm
